Steve Jobs d'Apple dévoile son ordinateur tablette, le iPad. Il s'agit en réalité d'un iPod Touch géant, qui vise à compétitionner les ordinateurs miniportables ("netbooks"), qu'il considère comme rien de plus que des portables à bas prix qui ne sont meilleurs sous aucun aspect. Pour le moment, le iPad ne sera disponible qu'aux États-Unis. Le reste du monde devra attendre au mois de juin. Note: Jobs en a également profité pour annoncer que le 250 millionnième iPod a été vendu la semaine dernière.

À peine plus de 4 mois après la sortie de Chrome 3.0, Google lance déjà la version 4.0 de son fureteur Web pour Windows XP, Vista et 7. Chrome 4.0 serait, aux dires de Google, 42% plus performante que 3.0 et 400% plus que la version 1.0 . Elle ajoute également à Chrome des extensions (un peu comme Firefox), ou "modules complémentaires" si vous préférez, ainsi que la synchronisation des marques-pages (en se connectant à son compte Google, l'ensemble des signets sera automatiquement synchronisé entre le Chrome 4.0 de tous les postes utilisés). Elle corrige de plus certaines vulnérabilités de sécurité.

Bien qu'une hausse des ventes de 28% ait beaucoup aidée, c'est surtout l'atteinte d'une marge de profits de 65%, un record chez Intel, qui a propulsé à ces résultats. La firme de recherche Nielsen a publié ses données sur le marché des moteurs de recherche aux États-Unis en décembre 2009, et il semble que la lune de miel avec le récent Bing de Microsoft soit déjà terminée. Sa part est passée de 10,7% en novembre à seulement 9,9% en décembre. Pendant ce temps, Google a continué d'augmenter sa domination, passant de 65,4% à 67,3%.

Google annonce qu'il veut cesser de censurer ses résultats de recherches en Chine, et serait même prêt à fermer son google.cn si le gouvernement chinois devait y poser problème! Ce changement de cap est motivé par la découverte que Google lui-même et d'autres entreprises nord-américaines sont victimes d'une "attaque hautement sophistiquée et ciblée" visant à amasser de l'information sur les activistes des droits humains. Google ne peut dire pour l'instant si le gouvernement chinois est derrière cette attaque.
